I remember as a youngster going to Northern Raceways with my older brother. He was the one who got me into the stock car thing in the first place. When I was building my first stock car my brother became ill and passed away. I have his name on my dash as my co-pilot and he's brought me good luck, even though my number is 13. I race at Laird International Raceway in Echo Bay Ontario. I was looking at the pictures and it brought back alot of great memories, thanks for posting them. I would love to take my current car around Northern Raceways to see how it would feel on the other side of the fence. Here are some pics of my current car. Thanks to my big brother Ray King for taking me to my first race, I'm hooked, anyone who races knows what I mean, the fever is in my blood for ever.

                                                                Yours truely,

                                                                            Dave King

I too remember back when racing was big in the Sault area. I recently took a trip out to Wright's raceway, this brough back a lot of memories. I remember my parents taking me there when I was very young. I still remember when Ed Powley hit the starters stand. We went down and looked at the car still crumpled against the stand.  The stand was in the infield and nothing more than a timber shell filled with gravel.
I also remember 5th line. What a treat to watch racing in a paved track. Today I took a walk around this track and it appears to holding it's own against the elements. A  flood of memories came back to me while wandering the grounds. Thanks for the pics from the racing days !!!!

I am 50 years old now and hope that all youngsters who have the opportunity to enjoy racing at Laird will hold their memories near and dear to their hearts like I do.

I to remember going to the races every Sunday night at Case road. It was a dirt track. My uncles both raced. Ed Powley was car 54 and Rodger was 53. They called him rolling Rodger Powley. Then came the races on 5th line. I sat in those stands and even found the odd nickle or dime on my way to the ladies room. I've got some footage from the old Bell and Howell my Mom had. We put them on a VHS. I'd love to get it put on a DVD. These are memories of a great time for racing fans. I'd love to share this. Thanks Valerie.

Spent many afternoons at the track back in the day ... many wonderful memories of the sounds and smells of pure power.

I'm not sure when the drag strip closed but it opened in 1966.

I raced a 340 70 dodge dart swinger back in 1972 or 73 on the drag strip. I remember the very short shut down area with a pile dumped at the end. The dart did not have power brakes so I use to have to lean on the brakes hard to slow down to turn on to the return road. I was attending trade school at the time for my mechanics license in the sault at the time. Jim.

My cousin was Gracie Powley, my other first cousins, Pat and Mike Uhlman raced there, as did their mom June and sister Patsy in the powder puff races.

I used to race against Ed and Roger Powley at the Case Road Track. Car #4.
It resembled a police car. I had a red light on top (kept me from rolling over).
I raced there summers of 1963 and 64, then went to the new Wagner dirt track in 65. Joined up with Country Singer Gary Buck from the Sault and moved to Kitchener. I'm now 77. I'm actually heading to MIS in Brooklyn MI this Friday to do 32 minutes on the Speedway in a cup car. Expect to do speeds in the 170's with Nascar Experience. I raced a Modified at Delaware Speedway in 2010 and 2011. However, I enjoy the cup cars. They are so set-up!
If any of the guys are still around send me note:
