It's been very
quiet since the original announcement. The web site that had appeared
has since disappeared. A friend of mine was in the area over Christmas
time and took some photos. Here's one taken from the south end of
the property. It shows no activity at all.
Original Article:
On August 11,
the Chatham Daily News ran a story about racing returning to The
Ridge Raceway. The Ridge has been a ghost track since 1995.
The article was
posted in the discussion
section of The Ridge Raceway Ghost Track page.
Nathan Trudell recently purchased the property that the remains
of The Ridge Raceway sit on. He plans to open the track in the spring
of 2007 under the slightly modified name of Ridgeview Raceway. Ridgeview
will be racing on Friday nights and will run similiar classes as
nearby South Buxton Raceway (which runs Saturday nights): UMP Super
Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Limited Late Models, Comp 4 and Pure
Stocks. Ridgeview will also be the home track for Ontario Dirt Late
Model Series.
Trudell will take ownership of the property on September 1 and will
get to work levelling the hill on the south side of the track to
build a new pit area. All the other facilities will have to be built
as well: grandstands, walls, fencing, concessions, washrooms, etc.
The track website is already up: http://www.ridgeviewspeedway.com.
